Ο Βλαμένκ είναι Γάλλος
φλαμανδικής καταγωγής, αυτοδίδακτος ζωγράφος.
Όταν το 1900 γνώρισε τον ζωγράφο Ντερέν, συνδέθηκε με τους Φοβιστές. Όταν
είδε την έκθεση έργων του Βαν Γκογκ που έγινε το 1901 στο Παρίσι, εκδήλωσε την
αγάπη του για το καθαρό χρώμα, ζωγραφίζοντας μια σειρά από τοπία με έντονα και
σκληρά χρώματα. Μετά τις χρωματικές τολμηρότητες, δέχεται την επίδραση του
Σεζάν και αναζήτησε τη στερεή σύνθεση. Η χρωματική γκάμα του έγινε λιτή και
κυριάρχησε η αρμονία σκοτεινότερων τόνων. Στα τελευταία του έργα οδηγήθηκε στον
Ρεαλισμό.
