Ο Μαρκ είναι Γερμανός ζωγράφος του Εξπρεσιονισμού, που είχε
σπουδάσει Φιλοσοφία και Θεολογία προτού ασχοληθεί με τη ζωγραφική.
Το 1991 μαζί με τους ζωγράφους Καντίνσκι, Μάκε και Κλέε δημιούργησαν την
ομάδα του Εξπρεσιονισμού «Γαλάζιος Καβαλάρης», που είχε ως στόχο να επιβληθεί
το «πνευματικό» στην τέχνη.
Το κύριο θέμα της ζωγραφικής του είναι τα ζώα, τα οποία μετέχουν με ενστικτώδη
αμεσότητα στους νόμους της παγκόσμιας Αρμονίας που ρυθμίζουν τη δημιουργία και
αποτελούν σύμβολα Κοινωνίας, Ειρήνης, Αλήθειας και Ταπεινότητας. Σκοτώθηκε 36 ετών
στις μάχες του Βερντέν κατά τον Α΄ Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο.
