Ο Γκρις είναι Ισπανός ζωγράφος του Κυβισμού.
Σπούδασε σχέδιο στη Μαδρίτη και ξεκίνησε την καριέρα του κάνοντας σκίτσα
για εφημερίδες και περιοδικά της εποχής. Το 1906 πήγε στο Παρίσι, όπου
επικρατούσε το στιλ της Αρ Νουβό, συνεχίζοντας να εργάζεται σε εφημερίδες. Εκεί
γνώρισε μεγάλα ονόματα της σύγχρονης τέχνης, όπως τον Μοντιλιάνι, τον Ματίς,
τον Λεζέ, τον Μπρακ και τον Πικάσο. Το 1910 άρχισε να ζωγραφίζει συστηματικά
και να διαμορφώνει το προσωπικό του στιλ που είναι ένας ευαίσθητος και
εμπνευσμένος Κυβισμός, περισσότερο διανοητικός από τους προκατόχους του, στον
οποίο δεσπόζει το χρώμα και χρησιμοποιείται συχνά η τεχνική του «παπιέ κολλέ ή κολάζ». Εικονογράφησε
πολλά βιβλία και σχεδίασε κοστούμια και σκηνικά για τα ρωσικά μπαλέτα του
Νταγκίλεφ. Πέθανε 40 ετών.
